TPSM8A29: TPSM8A29 current limit support

Hi,

We would like to replace our existing designs having LMZ31710,LMZ31704,LMZ31707 DC-DC Switching Regulators with TPSM8A29 due to non-availability of stock.

1. Using the current limit pin(TRIP) on the TPSM8A29, can we configure this to customized current rating. Doing so will this be stable?

2. In the TPSM8A29 there is provision for multiple switching frequencies, what are the advantages of having these frequencies? How to chose the correct mode and suitable frequency?

3. Instead of using 8 output capacitors shown in application schematic, can we use only 4 capacitors? if so do we need increase the output capacitance?

Go to the webench.ti.com and search for TPSM8A29 and create the designs.

1. equation 5 in datasheet describes the Rtrip setting on page 17.

2. Generally speaking, lower switching frequency for higher efficiency and higher switching frequency for smaller size.

webench uses small footprint or high efficiency as a design goal to create reference designs

3. 8x47uF can be replaced with 4x100uF, or use the webench designer to choose different designs.

Approximately November 15th, 2021 is the release date.

The product is not expected to change, the silicon that

the product is based on has been released for over a year.
