BQ28Z610: BQ28z610 PACK resistor value

Part Number: BQ28Z610
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ40Z50

Hello,

I've noticed that the PACK resistor value on the BQ28z610 is 10 ohms,  for other TI GGs that I'm familiar with like the BQ40z50 this resistor is recommended to be 10k.

1. can you confirm that the value is 10ohm? I assume its correct as the EVM User Guide also shows 10 ohm.

2. What is the reason for a 10k resistor on bq40z50 pack pin vs the 10ohm on BQ28z610 pack pin?

best regards,

-Steve Wilson

  • Hello Steve,

The BQ28Z610 uses these pins as power pins, that's why the lower resistance values are used, to prevent I-R drops. The BQ40Z50 also has the VCC pin, which is used for power, pack pin is only used to sense the voltage. Both gauges have the capability to be powered from with the PACK side or the BAT side depending on the voltages.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller
