BQ79616-Q1: Cell voltage range

Part Number: BQ79616-Q1

I was wondering why the range of cell voltages starts from -1V? What is the reason for negative cell voltages? The format of the cell voltage registers is twos complement. Is there an option to use the cell voltages in unipolar mode?

Thanks,

Priya

  • Priya,

For the majority of application scenarios the cell voltage will be somewhere between 2V and 4.5V. But with certain battery cell chemistries and under some fault conditions the battery voltage can go negative. We don't have an option to change the output format for these registers, so you will have to read the 2's compliment value.
