LM317HV: How to do 1A current limiter?

Hello,

I created 1-A Current Regulator from datasheet, but it doesnt work as expected. I need this to charge battery with constant current.
Intput voltage was 50V, load was battery (46V), current about 50-80mA.
Change value of R1 did not change output current. Why?

I would 1 A constant current and 50 V output voltage.

    Hi Szymon,

    was the regulator in operation? Can I see scope shots and a schematic of your design? The fact that changing the value of R1 had no effect upon the current that the LDO was outputting makes it seem as if the part is not in operation.

    I'd also like to ask what package you are using?

    Additionally I would like to ask why you have designed a constant current source for the device, and not designed using 9.2.14's battery charger circuitry, is there a reason that you need specifically constant current for the battery?
