TPSM82810: Higher output capacitance

Part Number: TPSM82810

Hello,

Is it possible connect higher output capacance than 470 uF (that is the limit specified in the datasheet)? FPGA on 1V rail requires 2x 470 uF (polymer cap with ESR about 5 mOhms) and several ceramic capacitors of the total effective capacitance up to 100 uF. What is the ESR limit for stability with higher capacitances? We are limited by space and current availability of components, so I don't see an alternative converter in this size for 4 A.

  • Hi Michal,

Typically, it is advisable to follow datasheet recommendations. If the output capacitance is exceeded then the loop stability of the device will be effected. It is better to confirm the loop stability using Bode plot measurements on your system.
