LM5160-Q1: the pros and cons for buck 12V/1A & 24V/0.5A

Part Number: LM5160-Q1

Hi experts,

My customer would like to transfer the voltage from 52V to 12V/1A or 24V/0.5A, both 12V/1A  and 24V/0.5A are fine.

I would like to know is there any pros and cons between 12V and 24V? like inductor space or efficiency, etc.

  • Hi Aaron,

The inductor would depend on the frequency setting that you select for your design. Higher frequency would be less efficient since you have more switching loss.
At the same time if you use the same frequency then a higher output voltage in general will require higher inductance to keep the inductor ripple low.

In terms of efficiency, you may check the webench design on the link below

Thanks and i hope that helps
