UCC27710: Absolute max, Output current (short time)

Genius 15770 points
Part Number: UCC27710

Hello

I have a question for UCC27710.

The datasheet specifies absolute max value of “Output current, I OUT_PULSED(300ns)” as “1.0/-0.5A”.

Does the user have to check and make sure that the peak sink/source current is less than this value?

Is there a possibility that the device is damaged if the output current is higher than this value?

Regards,

Oba

  • Hello Oba,

The peak currents of the driver output are self limiting and the designer does not have to make provisions in the design to limit this value. The driver itself will not have any issues with driving a capacitive load with no gate resistance. Although we do recommend making provisions for external gate resistance so the designer can optimize the power device switching times.

The designer does have to watch the design to make sure that the IOUT_DC rating is not exceeded however. This is usually not an issue if the driver is driving a power device which is a capacitive type load with short duration peak currents.

    Regards,
