BQ76940: self control when MCU is in sleep mode

Part Number: BQ76940

Hi Team,

below are two questions.

1. after MCU enter in sleep mode, can BQ76940 itself still do battery voltage sensing and temp sensing, also keep discharged FET turn on?  At this condition, if there is short condition, can BQ76940 turn off discharged FET in time?

2. after MCU enter into sleep mode, if BQ76940 detect abnormal battery voltage or temperature, can it turn off discharged MOS in time itself and send Alert to wake up MCU?

  • Hello Given,

Yes, the BQ76940 will still function properly and still have sensing and protections. However, it would need the MCU to recover from any protection fault. Once a protection event is detected, it will activate protections and then send an ALERT to the MCU.

One thing to keep in mind, if the MCU turns off the ADC, the voltage protections will not work (See Section 10.3.1.1.2 of the datasheet), so long it does not turn it off, it should be okay.

    Best Regards,
