Hi team,

Our customer is designing layout for TPS38A-Q1(DSK package). They would like to know if GND pad/VIA are necessary and how to design them in specific. For example, what size/amount of GND pad/VIA should be used for power consumption above specific watt, or they are not needed for power consumption below specific watt

Is there any recommendation on GND pad/VIA design?

    Hi Muwei,

    The PAD for the DSK package is not internally connected, the PAD can be connected to GND or be left floating. The PAD is not used for any power since there is no internal connection.

    It is not needed to be connected to anything so its is a preference. If they do want to connect the PAD to something then use the layout in "EXAMPLE LAYOUT BOARD" on pg 35 of the current datasheet revision. That gives our recommendations for the TPS38-Q1 middle pad.
