TPS5420: Application inquiry

Part Number: TPS5420
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS5431

Hi,

Good Day. I have a customer who is working with TPS5420. Please see below his query for your reference. Thank you very much.

Hi, we use your TPS5420DR part for one of our circuit boards. Unfortunately due to the supply chain issues, we won't be able to get this particular part. I found, however, a part TPS5431 that for all intents and purposes is the same chip, but with a higher current rating. the only real difference on our end is that this new chip has a power pad on the bottom, where the old part did not. My question is: if we're still using the same amount of current that was acceptable on a chip without the power pad, but then move to a chip with a power pad, is it OK to leave the power pad disconnected?
yeah, just as a small note on what I had said, the TPS5420 is a 2A regulator, but we're only using maybe ~600-700mA. We would still be using that same amount, but now the TPS5431 is a 3A regulator.

Best Regards,

Ray Vincent
