BQ25672EVM: Charging battery with lower VBUS current

Part Number: BQ25672EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25672

Using the BQ25672 EVM, I want to charge a 1 cell LiIon even during dim solar power conditions. I noticed the Charge Current Limit register 0x3h range is limited to 50-3000mA. Does the chip support charging/MPPT at lower currents e.g., 5 - 50mA? Do you have a graph of the battery charge efficiency at these lower charging currents with VBAT = 4V and PFM enabled?

  • Hi Michael,

The chip does not regulate charge currents lower than 50mA.  However, if the VINDPM feature is regulating the input voltage to the panel's MPP, the converter duty cycle is clamped.  The output current is prioritized for the SYS load and charge current reduces, potentially to the point where the battery starts discharging to feed the SYS load.  I don't have efficiency curves lower than 50mA.

    Regards,

    Jeff
