TPS62913: Effective output capacitance

Part Number: TPS62913

Hi,

The TPS62913 datasheet lists the effective capacitance as up to 200uF (including secondary LC filtering). Can I check whether this means the maximum capacitance on the entire rail or just at the output of the converter?

If we need more capacitance, is there any way to compensate this supply to handle more?

Many thanks

  • Hello, thanks for your question.

The TPS62913 is internally compensated for up to 200uF effective capacitance.  Keep in mind that DC bias derating lowers the effective capacitance for ceramic capacitors, which will depend on the output cap used as well as the output voltage.

There is not a way to re-compensate for greater than 200uF effective capacitance.  What is the reason for needed larger than the recommended output capacitance?  Will it be placed locally, or at a distance from the device?

  • Hi

I will close the E2E case, if you have further question, you can reopen this. Thanks.
