LM2651: When does it enter hysteretic mode?

Part Number: LM2651
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMR12010,

Hello team,

I have a question regarding the LM2651MTCX-ADJ/NOPB.

It has a hysteretic mode at light loads that could be a problem for my problem, depending on the load at which it drops into that.  The datasheet says 100 mA at 5V input...how can we calculate what load it will drop into hysteretic with a 12V input and ~3.0V output?  Does it occur as soon as the FET current hits zero?

Thanks

Austin Allen

  • Hi Austin,

I just sent you an email about LMR12010. Both LM2651 and LMR12010 are similar. They are non-synchronous buck converter and used Schottky diode to instead of low side  MOSFET. The critical output current depends on Vin/Vout, switching frequency and inductor. See equation as below.

    Thanks,

    Nancy
