LM25066A: Compatibility between LM25066 and LM25066A

Part Number: LM25066A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM25066, , LM25066I, LM25066IA

Hello Expert,

Our customer consider to replace to LM25066A from LM25066.
Then, they have questions for these device as below.

First, I confirmed datasheet from the point of view of regarding electric characteristics, then I think difference between LM25066A and LM25066 is only telemetry accuracy.
Is this understanding correct?

Second, I also confirm datasheet from the point of view of register, then I cannot found difference between LM25066A and LM25066.
So I think they can use same program for controlling LM25066A and LM25066 if they can ignore difference regarding telemetry accuracy.
Is this understanding correct?

Last, I think we can replace LM25066 by LM25066A if above questions understanding is correct.
How do you think about this my opinion?

I'm looking forward to hearing back from you.

  • Hi Kazuki,

Thanks for reaching out to us. I will get back to you tomorrow.

  • Hi Kazuki,

Your understandings are absolutely correct. LM25066 can be directly replaced with LM25066A ignoring the differences in telemetry accuracy.

  • Hi Avishek,

    Thank you for your support.
I understand the difference between LM25066 and LM25066A.

I have new questions for LM25066x family as below.

    1. What is the difference between LM25066/LM25066A and LM25066I/LM25066IA
I think main difference is whether it can support READ_EIN feature.
In detail, both I version has additional register(5Dh,7Fh,86h,89h,97h,98) and different default value on several register.
    2. Could we replace LM25066 by LM25066I(A)?
I think we can use LM25066I(A) if we overwrite all register setting as LM25066.
    3. Could you tell me why we develop A version?
e.g. we received some field feedbacks requiring higher telemetry accuracy or etc...

    Best regards,
    Kazuki Kuramochi

  • Hi Kazuki,

All the variants of LM25066 are pin to pin compatible and same from the hardware point of view. The key difference among LM25066I, LM25066A, LM25066IA, and LM25066 is telemetry accuracy. Please refer to the “Telemetry Accuracy” of the “Electrical Characteristics” table in each datasheet for more details. "A" stands for better telemetry accuracy and "I" represents that the particular variant is IntelTM Node Manager complaint.

LM25066I and LM25066IA add the READ_EIN energy accumulator feature and are fully compliant to IntelTM Node Manager 2.0 & 2.5, while the other two don’t.

Please see the attached comprehensive summary of the commands supported by the different variants.

    Supported PMBus™ Commands - LM25066, LM25066A, LM25066I, LM25066IA.pdf

It’s recommended to use MFR_SPECIFIC_18: AVG_BLOCK_READ (E2h) and MFR_SPECIFIC_10: BLOCK_READ (DAh) block read commands to retrieve the most recent diagnostic and telemetry information in a single transaction. These make all the variants of LM25066 to be fully firmware compatible apart from READ_EIN (86h). LM25066 can be replaced by LM25066I(A).

  • Hi Avlshek,

    Thank you for your answer.
    I understand.
