How does PGTH function in TPS2663 ?

  • Usually, PGTH is used to monitor the output voltage level so that PGOOD signal can be asserted to control the downstream load.

In TPS2663, PGTH is also used for fast transient recovery when voltage at PGTH is above PGTH threshold.

    • In case of transients on input, When PGTH is connected to GND, the device will always power up the output with dVdT control.
    • In case of transients on input, If PGTH pin is connected to resistor divider on OUT and PGTH voltage is above  VPGTH , the device will power up the  output immediately without dVdT control. This provides fast transient recovery for output caps/load. PGOOD pin is used in conjunction with fast transient recovery to quickly charge the output caps.

When PGOOD signal is not required, PGTH needs to connected to GND.
