BQ24078: What's output short circuit behavior

Part Number: BQ24078

Hi,

What is the short circuit behavior of the device?

Retry and recovery?

  • Hi Jim,

The short circuit detection on OUT will depend on the mode it's in.

A short circuit at OUT when an adapter is plugged in while put the device into Battery Supplement Mode. In Supplement mode, the short circuit is detected once OUT drops Vo(sc2) or 250mV below the battery voltage.

If the device does not have an adapter and is only being powered by battery, the threshold is the same but it must be longer than tDGL(SC2) (250us).

The device will turn off OUT and start the short circuit recover timer. After tRECT(SC2) (60ms) the device will attempt to restart the OUT. If the short is still detected, the OUT will turn off and the cycle repeats. OUT will remain active once the overload condition is removed.

    Best Regards,

    Anthony Pham
