TPS650250: How to connect AGND and PGND

Part Number: TPS650250

Dear Specialists,

My customer is considering TPS650250 and has a question about how to connect AGND and PGND.

I would be grateful if you could advise.

---

On our circuit diagram, A-GND and P-GND of TPS65025 are separated on our board.

How should AGND and PGND be connected on the board?

1. Connect A-GND and P-GND without separate. (It doesn't seem to be divided on the evaluation board layout)

2. Divide into A-GND and P-GND groups and connect at one point.

3. Insert a bead inductor between the A-GND and P-GND groups.

Currently, our board is in the state of 3.

In this case, It seems that ripples are added to the output voltage depending on the ferrite beads used.

---

I appreciate your great help in advance.

Best regards,

Shinichi

  • Hello Shinichi-san,

Best option is to follow our EVM layout as guidance, since it is proven design and used to verify the performance of the device. Ideally you would want to separate high SW currents from the sensitive supply GND, but separating the GNDs can cause more problems in the end and can complicate matters. In the EVM all GNDs are connected strongly together and then to the GND plane.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Tomi,

    Thank you for your reply.

I understand AGND and PGND should be connected together like EVM.

I'll share this information with the customer.

I appreciate your great help and cooperation.

    Best regards,

    Shinichi
