TPS56121: Current rating

Hi Team,

The TPS56121 is rated up to 15A as stated at page 1 of the datasheet. However, it states in section 8.2.2.12 it can handle 20A. Our customer would like to know how does this affect the reliability of the device and which one is correct?

The power stage for the TPS56121 is using same power stage at the TPS56221 device which is sized for 25A.

Hi David,

Thank you for your response. Does it mean that the 15A and 20A stated at page 1 and section 8.2.2.12 respectively are incorrect?

Not a mistake, the TPS56121 is a 15A spin from the 25A TPS56221. Section 8.2.2.12 is a design method and states the current limit can be set to a minimum 20A to assure developers that 15A output current can be achieved.
