TPS65381A-Q1: TPS65381A-Q1

Part Number: TPS65381A-Q1

We are testing TPS65381 device. Input voltage supplied is 12V & expected output are not seen.

Based on EVM schematic; i see  difference in our schematic is VCP pin has been connected to VBAT_SAFING & VBATP instead of ground. Could this be reason?

I Would like to get reviewed our schematic? Appreciate support

Best regards,
Sachin

  • Hi Sachin,

Is VCP connected to GND in your schematic? Can you clarify if this is correct? If this is correct you will need to connect the VCP pin through a capacitor to VBATP net for proper device function.

I would recommend reviewing the TPS65381x-Q1 Design Checklist (found here) to assist in checking your schematic. We can provide a final review after you go through this checklist.

  • Hello Layne,

I am not sure of VCP to GND connection. not directly. it something like: 12V DC input line grounded with capacitor & connected to VBATP & VSAFE pins & then  VCP pin is connected through a capacitor to VBATP net

Our observation is : VDD6 volt is not showing 6V output. Design checklist mention below seems to be met by our designer.

Only issue could be IGN pin. Is initial device power up also depend on IGN key? if so then its not pulled up? Pls suggest!

Its slightly urgent. Can you be kind to help to review schematic & suggest!

    Best regards,
    Sachin

  • Hi Sachin,

I just wanted to let you know that Layne is aware of your latest post and should be able to respond to it by COB tomorrow. Thank you.

  • Hi Sachin,

For the device to power up at least one of CANWU or IGN must be used as these are the enable signals for the device.

I can provide a schematic review, please attach the schematic so I can begin the review.

  • Thanks Layne, suggestion works. Now question is related to application specific use of TPS65831 device. We are using it in BMS product which will be first assembled in Li ion battery & there ignition will not be available; ignition application will be possible only when battery get assmebled in Vehicle system. Hence quetsion is that in such cases; is there provision to power up with out CAN & ignition pins?

  • Hi Sachin,

Unfortunately this device requires a valid wakeup signal on either the IGN or CANWU pins to turn on so the system will need to be configured for this to happen. It is possible to connect a different signal to either the IGN or CANWU pin through a diode to have multiple inputs to a single pin. Depending on the other enable signals that are available you can use this method to provide a different wake up signal to either of those pins.

    Best regards,
