TPS61032: Kindly detailed review of the power supply section

Part Number: TPS61032

The actual part number of the part is

TPS61032RSAR

Kindly do a detailed review of the Boost section. The component details and the schematics were attached below.

So please compare the c omponent features matching the boost and boost output requirement.

  • Hi Sir,

    Thanks for reaching out and use TPS61032! Could you please confirm below specs for your application? I need to check spec before schematic check.

    -Input voltage: 3.3V~3.6V

    -Output voltage: 5V

    -Maximum Output current: 2A

    -Continuous output current: 2A

  • Hi Sir,

    Please kindly refer to below comments to your schematic:

    1.Customer's requirement: Output current is too high for TPS61032

    The worst case is VIN=3.3V, VOUT=5V and IOUT=2A. TPS61032 has 86% efficiency in this case. This requires at least 3.52A input current. For TPS61032 has inductor current ripple of 1.057A. This results in inductor peak current to 4.05A. As you may see in datasheet, TPS61032 has minimum peak current limit of 3600mA. This may cause Vout drops when you draw 2A, in the worst case.

    2.Schematic spec:

    Inductor: I do not see problems in using 2.7uH inductor, but it is recommended to use 6.8uH inductor in typical application. Note smaller inductor results in larger inductor ripple, which slightly decreases output current capability;

    Input capacitor: Fine

    Output capacitor: Please note the ESR of C166 shall be larger than 30mOhm from loop stability consideration; C165 should be placed close to IC.

    Ferrite bead: Note the ferrite bead will influence loop stability. Why there is a ferrite bead?

    LBI: Threshold of detection is 3.25V.

    LBO: Use 1Mohm is recommended;

  • Hi Sir,

    Reply to the 1st comment mentioned in the above mail, Is it ok for a maximum load current of 1.5A?
  • Hi Aswin,

    1.5A will be good.
