BQ76940: BQ76952EVM to see BQ76940 registers on BQ studio

Part Number: BQ76940
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO, BQ76952EVM, BQ76952, , , EV2400, BQ78350-R1A

I have developed BMS using BQ76952 IC and am using BQ76952EVM to see registers on BQstudio.

Now I am looking to develop stackable BMS using BQ76940.

I don't want to buy  BQ76940EVM as it will put strain on my budget.

Can I use BQ76952EVM to see registers of BQ7640 on BQstudio ?

Thanks

  • Hello Nitin,

Yes, you should be able to use the BQ76952EVM to read the BQ76940 registers.

Connect to the on-board EV2400 header connections to your IC.

  • Hello Nitin,

The BQ76952EVM has an EV2400 on the PCB, this is what connects from the micro-USB to the computer.

You should be able to connect the SCD/SCL from the EV2400 (found in the BQ76952EVM board) to the BQ76940 IC. The SDA/SCL line would be found in J19 and J16.

  • Thanks Luis very much clear now...

But I have to cancel the plan to use BQ76940. I see it doesn't have OTP.

I don't see any IC meeting these requirements: Low side driver, 16S and OTP.

  • Hello Nitin,

I apologize, I got the part families mixed up. I am sorry for the confusion.

The BQ76940 would not be able to communicate with bqStudios. You'd need the companion IC, the BQ78350-R1A to communicate with the BQ76940 to bqStudio. The BQ76940 has low-side FET drive, 15s, and may not need OTP with the BQ78350-R1A.

The BQ76952 probably would fit your application better, but we are currently facing stock issues. I apologize for the inconvenience.

    Best Regards,
