[FAQ] BQ25700A: Why is BQ25700A battery quiescent current higher than expected?

Part Number: BQ25700A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: EV2400

The BQ25700A buck-boost charger has a low power mode, which puts the device with battery only for lowest quiescent current. PROCHOT, discharge current monitor buffer, power monitor buffer and independent comparator are disabled. ADC is not available in Low Power Mode.

If the measured quiescent current is higher than expected, first check if any external circuitry is connected to the battery source. For example, the BQ25700AEVM has a 3.3V onboard LDO which is connected to either adapter or battery side. The LDO drains additional current. Remove JP8 to isolate the external circuitry.

There is a small difference on the quiescent current with or without the EV2400 box. Removing the EV2400 connector further reduces the quiescent current.

With the default setting, the enable low power mode (EN_LWPWR=1) is on. You should have the lowest quiescent current.
