LM2673-5.0EVAL: Can we change the output voltage on LM2673-5.0EVAL devkit

Hello, guys.
We would like to experiment with LM2673 step down converter with adjustable output and current limiting options.

I noticed this evaluation kit: LM2673-5.0EVAL

Not sure whether this devkit comes with LM2673 with the fixed output (3.3V, 5V, or 12V) or we can set the output voltage thorugh the resistors R1 and R2 on devkit?

Can you help me with that? Also, it seems the kit is out of stock at Mouser and DigiKey. Can we buy it directly from TI?

Also, what is the footprint of the resistors R1, R2, R3 on the devkit? Is it 1206 or 0603, 0805... ?

We would need to replace them and put some other values there in order to define the output voltage and the current limit.

Hello

You can use the EVM for both ADJ and fixed versions.

You can purchase the EVM from the TI web page for this device.

Not sure what footprint are used for those resistors.

Adding to what Frank mentioned...and looking at the picture, it looks like the evaluation board is populated with a fixed output option (5V), with the R1 resistor open and R2 populated with 0ohm to connect feedback to the output.

You would need to swap the IC with an adjustable version.

The R footprints look like 1206, which is understandable for 20+ year old part...The board can be ordered from the TI store as Frank mentioned. Here is a link: https://www.ti.com/tool/LM2673-5.0EVAL

If you are looking for a simple regulator I would suggest checking out the new modules in different current options:

Thanks for the fast feedback and useful info, guys.

We are basically interested in a step-down (buck) converter that will give us 10.1V output for the input voltage range from 12V to 24V. Also, important thing is that we want to be able to limit the load current with external resistors in a way that the circuit does not break when the limit current is reached but just to continue delivering the limit current to the load even though the load is asking for more.

From what I've seen, TPSM63603 is out of stock and both TPSM63603 and TPSM63606 do not have the ability to adjust the current limit.

Is there any other module, preferably with a development kit available so that we can evaluate it fast, that we can consider?

Usually modules have pre-set current limit internally and is not adjustable.

LM2673 has the possibility to set the current limit externally, through the resistor R3 on devkit. That's why we like it.

You said the part is 20+ years old. Is it still recommended for new designs or there are some recommended replacements that have the possibility of limiting the current?

The LM22673 has adjustable current limit and is somewhat more modern than the LM2673.
