TPS1HA08-Q1: The feasibility to use A and C version as the dual source

Part Number: TPS1HA08-Q1

Hi Expert,

My customer is using the TPS1HA08CQPWPRQ1 in DCDC converter. Due to the supply issue, they want to evaluate the TPS1HA08AQPWPRQ1 as the alternative solution.

From the datasheet, I know that the difference is only the OCP mechanism. My question is that:

1. Due to the difference of  OCP mechanism, is there any thing need to be changed? Like the control algorithm in the MCU or peripheral circuit.

2. Any thing need to be aware about the replacement?

Thank you!

Pin

  • Pin,

Could you comment on the load of the application including the steady state load current and capacitance on the output? The C version of the device "clamps" the current and is often used in applications where a large inrush capacitance is required to be charged. The A version shuts off the output immediately when the current limit is triggered. The A version can still be used in capacitive load situations, however it really depends on the load profile.

From a pure pin/BOM perspective, the devices will be identical in footprint and passives put around the device in the design.
