PTH05T210W: power management

Part Number: PTH05T210W

Hi,

I have used PTH05t210WAD and PTH04T241WAD in my design. I just want to verify the connection which I have done in order to read current via current sense resistor highlighted the image below. Kindly check the connection and let me know if I need to make any changes.

Regards

Hemant

  • Hi Hemant,

No, I recommend placing the current sense resistor after the output caps.  This will then measure the DC output current, which is what you want.

    Thanks,

    Chris

  • Hi, thanks for the prompt response.

So, I understanding from your suggestion is by placing the sense resistor between C1096 and R1117 i can able to measure the current in U45?

    Thanks & Regards

    Hemant

  • Hi Hemant,

It looks like the power is flowing out onto the Vcore net?  If so, then the current sense resistor would need to go in series with that net.  There's not enough room on your schematic to insert the resistor, so you'll need to move that net label up towards to the top and insert the resistor there.

  • Hi Chris,

I have tested my other module which is also present in my design, I am able to read below module data as 03 and 01 in HEX via I2C. The connection is same as the one which I have shared earlier.

Please look at the above circuit and let me know why I am getting the data in i2c with 1v8 and 3v3 but not in Vcore and 1v35?

    thanks,

    Hemant

  • Hi Hemant,

I don't understand your question.  These devices do not have I2C.

    Can you re-explain your question?

    Chris

  • Hi Chris,

I am using external I2C based current monitoring IC, where I am monitoring above module (Vcore, 1v35,1v8,3v3) current  as shown in the above images of PTH.

Through I2C based current monitoring IC, I am able to measure the current for 1v8 and 3v3 but not for Vcore and 1v35.

My question is the placement of current sense resistor for all the voltage rails are common (as shown in above images) but I am only able to read the current for 1v8 and 3v3 supply? Is I am doing something wrong with the connection?

    Regards

    Hemant

  • I suggest bypassing the I2C circuit and reading the voltage directly across the resistor, to remove one possible issue with the circuit.

If this doesn't work, you will need to look at the actual PCB layout to see where the current is actually flowing based on where the copper is poured.  In some cases, various nets are somehow shorted on the PCB, which causes the current to not flow through the sense resistor.
