TPS766: Load / Line Transient response time

Part Number: TPS766

Hi,

I was going through the Datasheet, and we see a load transient of ~200mV w/ CL=4.7uF when IOUT=0 to IOUT=250mA.

Do we know what will be the slew/transient rate? Scales on the graphs are not clear, can you please let us know the exact slew rate?

Also, if CL is increased from 4.7uF to 20uF will the transient rate also be proportionally slower?

Thanks & Regards,

Nirav

  • Hi Nirav,

This is an older part, so we unfortunately do not have that information exactly

Increasing the load capacitance will not decrease the speed at which the LDO responds to the transient condition, this means that the peak high or low voltage will occur at the same time. However the output slew rate will be lessened as placing a larger CL will cause the magnitude of the over/undershoot to be lessened. Therefore there is a smaller voltage change over the same period of response, and as such the slew rate by definition will be slower. However, the recovery back to standard operation may also be very slightly slower as the larger capacitance needs to discharge it's energy, and does so at a slightly lower rate.

The transient rate however is independent of the LDO. This is the rate of the load or Line changing externally to the LDO, it's rate can be selected by the designer during test, and the other components of the system under test ideally have 0 effect on this value.

    Regards,
