TPS650250: Alternative to Maxim Himalaya

Hi team, 

My customer is working on a new battery input stage that will be used in several designs. For this development, the R&D team is looking for a low cost 24 Volt battery input stage to stepdown to “+5V about 300mA”, “+ 3.3V about 500mA”, “+7.5V about 750mA” and 2.5V 50mA reference voltage with precision of 0.5%. Do we have a suitable quad buck converter for this?

 They currently use Himalaya series –( https://www.maximintegrated.com/en/products/power/power-modules/himalaya-uslic-power-modules.html) from Maxim, but they need to cut cost down for their next gen by  80%.

And hence are interested in a TI alternative. low form factor, minimum external components, low price are key factors for them.

 Would you have a recommendation here?

    Thanks for reaching out! Do you know which device specifically they are currently using? If you have the part number, I can look into the details and see if we have a close replacement. Also, could you confirm this is for a non-automotive application?

    Is the customer ok with combining a PMIC solution with a pre-regulator to step down the input voltage?

    The currently use the following:

    5 Volt – 500mA [ MAXM17575ALI# ]

    3.3 Volt ( Digital ) [ MAXM15064AMB+T ] ( analog 3.3 volt was made with filters )

    2.5 Volt & 5.0 Volt ( Analog references for A/D’s ) [ LT6658AIDE-2.5#PBF ]

    Are you able to suggest alternatives based on this?

    Thanks for providing the information! Here are the options for replacement:

    • From our internal cross reference tool, LMZ36002RVQT and LMZM23601 seems to be good replacements for MAXM17575ALI# and MAXM15064AMB+T respectively. 

    • You can also take a look at TPS650830 and TPS43331-Q1 which are integrated solutions with multiple output rails that allows 24V input. If you think any of these solutions would be a good fit, just let me know and I will get you in contact with the corresponding Apps engineer for technical support. 

    • TPS65023B and TPS650250 are hardware configurable PMICs that could also be considered if the customer add a pre-regulator to step down the input voltage to ~5.5V-6V.
