TPS23882B1EVM-008: Can TPS23882B1EVM-008 + BOOST-PSEMTHR8-097 work stand alone?

Part Number: TPS23882B1EVM-008
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS23882B, BOOST-PSEMTHR8-097, , USB2ANY

Hello guys,

One of my customers is trying to evaluate TPS23882B using BOOST-PSEMTHR8-097 and TPS23882B1EVM-008.

But these boards doesn't work.

At this moment, they have the following question. Could you please give me your reply for them?

Q. We think that these board set, BOOST-PSEMTHR8-097 + TPS23882B1EVM-008 can work with supplying power (48V) only without any setting or program.

     Is our understanding correct?

Or is it mandatory to program or setting from PC via USB2ANY or MSPEXP430FR5969?

Your reply would be much appreciated.

Best regards,

  • Hi Kazuya,

Do you have the AUTO pin set to 30W already? If not, you will need to configure that in order to get the device in autonomous mode and let the board running without GUI or MSP430. Thanks.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Penny,

Thank you very much for your reply.

I'm sorry that my explanation was not enough.

The customer has already set “2-pair 30 W” by short #3 to #4 of J5 connected to AUTO terminal of TPS23882B on EVM.

Do you have any advice else?

Thank you again and best regards,

  • Kazuya,

What's do you mean by doesn't work? Can you capture the port voltage and current waveform after connecting to a PD? Thanks.

  • Hello Penny.

Thank you for your reply and I'm sorry that my explanation was not enough.

I wanted to tell you that the EVM didn't supply any power to PD device when the PD device was connected.

I ask them to check GAT1~8 terminal level when PD device is connected.

I tell you their answer as soon as I get it.

Thank you again and best regards,

  • Hello Penny,

Thank you very much for your reply.

The problem was resolved. The cause was poor power supply of the customer side.

The EVM worked correctly when their powerful power supply was connected to the EVM.

Thank you again for your supports and best regards,
