LM4040: Preferred connection of Pin 3 (leave it open / floating or tie to pin 2 / GND)

Part Number: LM4040

Customer has the following question about LM4040. LM4040 is now being used as a pin-compatible replacement for the previously used ADI ADR5041ARTZ-R2 and the question arises as to how the open pin (3) should ultimately be wired on LM4040.

We have installed the ADR5041ARTZ-R2 but now they would like to replace it with an LM4040.
In the data sheet of the ADR it says pin compatible to LM4040, but they have still layouted the open pin to V+.
However, in TI datasheets for voltage references it is stated that this pin should either be connected to GND or left open.
Connecting pin 3 to V+ is not allowed (and therefore LM4040 cannot be functionally compatible with ADR5041ARTZ-R2).

Question therefore: What is the preferred wiring of pin 3 for LM4040: leave it open or connect it to pin 2?
