BQ29209-Q1: Connecting one cell only

Hi Team,

Good day! I am posting this in behalf of the customer. Kindly confirm if Q29209-Q1 still works fine if customer used only one cell instead of two. The datasheet shows the configuration for the 2-series cell battery connection with cell balancing enabled. How about the other one cell only. Kindly enlighten us please with supporting documents.

Hello Jonathan,

What is the cell voltage they expect to use? We do not advertise the part to be used with one cell and we cannot guarantee it will work properly if done so.

However, from the datasheet I can see in Section 7.3 Recommended Operating Conditions, that the minimum supply voltage is 4-V. With one cell, it may be more difficult to reach this voltage. Also, for an idea of what occurs when you short VC2 to VC1, you could also read our BQ29209-Q1 Function Safety Capable Manual.

If using one cell, we may not be able to support it as we do not usually recommend to do so.
