Can TPS2420 be a pin to pin replacement for TPS2590?

    TPS2420 can be used as a pin to pin replacement for TPS2590. As we can see from below images that pin layout is same for both devices and package size is also same. They also have same operating voltage and current range.

    All the pin functionalities are same except 13 and 14. The only difference is that in TPS2590 , pin 13 and 14 are grounded and in TPS2420 pin 13 and 14 are IMON and PG respectively . So you may have concern that can we ground IMON and PG in TPS2420? The answer is yes. 

    PG  pin can be grounded as it is an open drain pin. 

    IMON pin can also be grounded without having effect on device performance  as it is only connected to a current source with very high output impedance.
