TPS65218D0: Question about set the output voltage?

Part Number: TPS65218D0
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65218, AM3358, BOOSTXL-TPS65218, TPS6521815

Hi

Can I change the output voltage setting and store it?

It is desired that the set voltage is output when the power is turned on.

Thanks

  • Hi David,

Thanks for using E2E! Yes, TPS65218D0 is a user programmable PMIC and the output voltages as well as the sequence and other features can be re-programmed. This will require making the changes on the corresponding registers and then saving the values into the EEPROM so they become the new power-up defaults. Which SoC are you powering? We have multiple TPS65218x devices that were released with the EEPROM pre-programmed to support specific TI and non-TI processors.

If you need a custom EEPROM config not available in any of our TPS65218x released devices, then I would recommend ordering the TPS6521815 along with the programming booster pack (BOOSTXL-TPS65218) which comes with a "blank EEPROM" for customers to program the memory and match specific power requirements. We recommend programming the output voltages before soldering the devices into the board because the I2C communication is available in the active state, after the power rails are ON, which could damage the SoC if the original default config doesn't come with the right voltage or sequence needs.

Once the custom EEPROM config is validated in a prototype board, for production we recommend contacting Arrow (TI approved distributor) for the programming services.

    Thanks,

    Brenda

  • Hello Brenda

    Thanks for your kind reply.

Our customer uses the AM3358 processor. And They bought the BOOSTXL-TPS65218 from ti.com.

Can you please let us know how to program the EEPROM of BOOSTXL-TPS65218?

If the test is done, my customer would order the tps6521815 with proper EEPROM to support AM3358.

    Thanks.

    Regards,

    Jack

  • Hello Jack,

Thank you for reaching out, and happy holidays. Our engineering team currently has limited staffing now through January 3rd. We will provide feedback no later than January 7th.

    Regards,

    Alex

  • Hi Jack,

Thanks for the information! We have a lot of resources online that shows how to program the EEPROM on the TPS65218 PMIC.I have listed the resources below. Please note that in order to re-program the memory, customers would have to change the registers first and then send three consecutive I2C commands to the password register to save the values into the EEPROM so they become the new power-up defaults. Please let me know if you have any additional questions or face any issues during the programing and I'll be happy to help.

Please note that changing some settings like the DCDC1 and DCDC2 output voltage will require just one additional step and the info will be noted on top of the register description table.

Due to the Christmas and New Year's Holidays, responses may be delayed from 12/20/21 - 1/3/22

    Thanks,

    Brenda
