TPS61042: Can the device be destroyed if the ctrl pin voltage is higher than Vin?

Part Number: TPS61042

I have a design where the Vin pin of the tps61042 is connected directly to a battery and the ctrl pin is connected to a microcontroller that runs off a 3.3 V supply.  It's possible for the ctrl pin to be at 3.3 V when the Vin pin is at 2.5 V or less under low battery conditions.  I've had three chips fail, all when the battery was low.

Basically, there should be no problem if ctrl pin voltage is higher than input voltage. To further confirm this, is it available to produce a low voltage ctrl signal (by wave generator)?  Besides, when you mentioned "three chips fail", did you mean the ICs were destroyed and cannot be powered up anymore?

If there is no more question, I will close this thread.

        thanks

  • The ICs were destroyed and would get hot to the touch when powered up but did not produce any output.  I still don't know what happened, but all three failures happened while running the circuit off a particular power supply.  I suspect a faulty power supply so I switched to a different one.  So far no failures.  Thanks for your help.
