LP3879: Voltage rating requirement for the input & output capacitance

Part Number: LP3879

Hi,

We want to use LP3879SD-1.2/NOPB, input is 3.3v, output is 1.2v and the load required is aroung 230mA. In the data sheet it is mentioned about the input and output capacitance values(such as min 4.7uF for input and 10uF for output). What voltage rating and tolerance, do we need to select for our application.

Thanks--

Sayyad.

  • Hello Sayyad,

We recommend a X5R/X7R ceramic input capacitor of at least 4.7uF (±20%) and a X5R/X7R ceramic output capacitor of at least 10uF (±20%) be used to ensure stability. Please take DC bias Capacitor derating into consideration when making your selection. Using a capacitor rated for a higher voltage rating (e.g. 25V) would ensure that the capacitor would not derate significantly at lower bias voltages (in this case 3.3V & 1.2V). Thanks!

    Regards,
