TPS7A78: the non-complet TPS7A78xx variant

Part Number: TPS7A78

Hi friends,

I have experimented with  new concepts for the conversion HV-AC/DC (110/230Vac --> 3Vdc) please see>  https://www.researchgate.net/publication/357877607_The_Inductor-less_line_supply_for_MCU_-realizations

Mz question has TI an IC like TPS7A78xx without the input stage or two-stage flying cap converter with input-voltage about 14-15V<

best regards

  • Hi Zbyno,

    Someone else may be able to comment about the availability of a part with just a 4:1 CP + LDO, but with regards to your 2nd question, you can operate SC_IN pin consistently down to 17V across temperature. That is referenced by VUVLO_SCIN on page 6 of datasheet. If starting up at 27C or higher, 14-15V should work as well.

    What's the reason to replace the input capdrop with a high voltage shunt regulator down to 20V? Is it cost, area? It will burn much more DC power and lower efficiency.

    Also, is your requirement to not use inductors driven by cost, size, magnetic tampering immunity, or something else?

    thanks,

    Bo

  • Hey Zbyno,

    Yes, there are other options and parts that we have that could work. What is the operating current? Depending on how much power is dissipating there are some different solutions that we would recommend here.

    Thanks,

    McKyla
