LM317-N: Input capacitor

Hi support team,
In the Typical Application item on the first page of the data sheet,
About C1 (input capacitor).

* Needed if device is more than 6 inches from filter capacitors.

Should I place the C1 if the current is small (eg 30mA) but this distance is longer than 6 inches (eg 12 inches)?

    Hello Dice,

                      We recommend that an input capacitor (C1) be added if the device input pin is located more than 6 inches away from the power supply source. This will compensate for source voltage impedances and improve line transient performance. Thanks!
