LM25148: Utilizing Frequency Synchronization and Spread Spectrum

Part Number: LM25148

Hello,

For a design with three LM25148, we are looking to utilize the sync capabilities and spread spectrum of these devices to minimize EMI. Looking at the datasheet, it mentions that Dual Random Spread Spectrum (DRSS) is disabled when an external clock is applied to the PFM/SYNC pin. Does this mean that you cannot utilize both at the same time?

I've included a rough block diagram of what is intended.

Thank you,

Kyle

  • Hi Kyle,

First the LM25148 does not have general SYNCOUT feature, the SYNCOUT is for dual-phase operation.

You cannot utilize DRSS and external clock no.

You could potentially dither the external clock to get a form of synchronized spread spectrum on multiple converters.
