TPS54060-EP: Enable pin overvoltage behaviour

Part Number: TPS54060-EP

I have incorrectly designed a power supply using the TPS54060-EP by directly connecting the Enable pin to Vin without any potential divider, causing the Enable pin to be in an overvoltage condition. During testing I have found that a small percentage of ICs fail into a short circuit (shorting Vin to GND) after a short amount of time while the remainder continue to operate correctly indefinitely albeit with higher current draw than if the Enable pin is left floating.

The question is whether it would be expected that the ICs that have not failed would continue to operate correctly if I isolate Enable from Vin. I understand that there can be no guarantee as the IC may already be damaged but I'm curious if there's any insight as to the expected behaviour of these ICs under these conditions.

Thanks,

  • Hello

I think that is a very difficult question to answer.  In my opinion it is best to err on the side of caution.

Although some devices may have survived for some time, it is probable that some form of damage has been sustained.

This damage may manifest itself at some time in the future causing failures in the field.

    Thank you
