SYNC-BUCK-FET-LOSS-CALC doesn't work

We are using Office 365 (macros are activated) and when I klick on Start FET selection and then on 3c "Click Here FET1" nothing happens. Only the sheet is flashing and turning grey for a moment. I have filled out all cells (Default motor parameter, Step 3a and 3b), but it seems like there is a problem getting the FET data from the TI website. I cannot pick a FET in Step 3d. Any Ideas?

    Hi Lukas,

    Thanks for trying out the tool. Sorry you are having issues with it. Can you please clarify which tool you are using? The subject line has the sync buck tool but in your description it sounds like the BLDC motor drive tool. Also, can you share the spreadsheet as you have filled it in with me? Please make sure that you have used the pull down menu to select a FET configuration - either Single Discrete or Dual/Power Block. Some requirements may not yield any devices as the conditions do not match any of the available TI discrete or power block FETs.

    Sorry for the confusion, but in fact both excel sheets are not working and show exactly the same behaviour. I have used the "default" values without changing anything except switching "3a. Select FET Configuration" to "Single Discrete"

    Hi Lukas,

    I believe Office 365 is cloud based. Is that correct? I haven't tried any of the tools on the cloud based version. I will see what I can do to try it on Office 365. By the way, the tools do not download anything from TI.com. They are all self-contained. I'll get back to you as soon as I have more information.

    Hi John,
    Office 365 has cloud based Apps, but also "normal" Desktop versions, which we are using (Microsoft 365 Business)

    Hi Lukas,

    I am very surprised that the tools are not working. There is nothing special - just a spreadsheet with macros to sort the FETs and create the pull down lists of possible parts by power loss. Perhaps the macros are not executing properly. The link below will take you to a training video I created for the sync buck tool. It used to be in the tool folder but for some reason, it is no longer there. I am also attaching a completed sync buck spreadsheet using the default values for the requirements. Open it and see if you can use the pull down lists to select FETs without running any of the macros. Then try to run the macros by following the instructions below. Let me know how this works.

    Just to make sure, here are some more detailed instructions for the sync buck tool:

    Enter your requirements in cells C11 - C26.

    Click on the big blue button labeled CLICK HERE in cells A37 - C41. This executes the macro that sorts the FETs based on VDS and VGS entered by the user.

    Select the FET configuration using the pull down menu in cell F11. There will be no results unless either Single Discrete or Dual/Power Block is selected.

    Click on the blue rectangular button labeled CLICK HERE Sync FET1 in cell F12. This executes the macro that calculates the sync FET power loss and creates and sorts the list of sync FETs by power loss.

    Click on the down arrow to the right of cell F15 to see the pull down list of possible sync FETs sorted by power loss and select a sync FET.

    Click on the blue rectangular button labeled CLICK HERE Cont FET1 in cell F26. This executes the macro that calculates the control FET power loss and creates and sorts the list of control FETs by power loss.

    Click on the down arrow to the right of cell F27 to see the pull down list of possible control FETs sorted by power loss and select a control FET.

    Thanks a lot!
    I found the problem: We are using the comma (",") as decimal separator and normaly this is converted automaticaly by Excel and other tools. After changing the decimal seperator manually your version (and also the original ones) are working fine.

    Glad I could help you Lukas. I would have never thought of that problem. I did a help search on excel and it says that it should be automatic based on your region. Maybe the protections on the spreadsheet prevent it from being automatic. A lesson learned for me!
