TPSM265R1: Current consumption

We recently switched from a RECOM R-7815-0.5 Buck-Converter to the TPSM265R1. We set the output voltage to about 13.5V. The first thing we saw was the the no load consumption was up to 25mA higher than the RECOM-Variant although we went down 1.5V and we have the same resistive load. And the deviation is not constant. Some draw 25mA and some only 10mA more. I expected it to be a bit more but not 500mW.

Is there something missing in my circuit?

Hi,

What is the input voltage used for the part? You can try to use 24V input and check the input current
Also what is the value of L1? If L1 is too large, there is a possibility that the VIN maybe oscillating.

Hi Arief

The input voltage was 26V. L1 is a ferrite which I already thought would be the cause. It is from "Wuerth Elektronik" and i replaced it with a 0R bridge. Same result. I Also tried to replace the 1uF Caps with 10uF. Didn't change anything. Maybe its our solder process and they got damaged. Is this part solderable in vapor phase reflow systems?

Hi Theo,

I checked with our internal team and the feedback is that we qualified our packages using conventional type of reflow system since majority of our customer are using the same process. Unfortunately we don't have any data on using vapor phase soldering.

We will produce a few more systems to check if that's the problem. We also did slight modifications to the footprint. Maybe that helps too.
