TPS6521835: PMIC for AM437x

Part Number: TPS6521835
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65218D0, TPS65218, TPS6521815

Hi team,

My customer is considering using AM437x. The recommended PMIC is TPS65218D0, but because of the supply shortage they’d like to use TPS6521835 instead.

I believe it is possible to re-program TPS6521835 to TPS65218D0. As far as I checked there is no HW schematic difference (including external component), is it correct?

Also, is there anything we need to be careful with regarding on SW (and HW if needed) modifications?

Best regards,

Kurumi

  • Hi Kurumi,

Thanks for reaching out! TPS65218D0 and TPS65216 are our two recommended PMICs to power the AM437x processor. TPS6521835 and TPS65218D0 have different EEPROM config (different output voltages, sequence, etc).

Since this is a user programmable PMIC, the customer can technically re-program TPS6521835 but they would have to power-up the PMIC first with the default settings (which could damage the processor. Not Recommended) before they can make any changes through I2C.

If TPS65218D0 is out of stock, the next option from the same family would be TPS6521815 which is the “blank” EEPROM spin for customer to re-program it and match specific power requirements. This version (TPS6521815) will come with all rails disconnected from the sequencer by default, allowing customers to make changes on the EEPROM settings before the power-up sequence is executed.

    Thanks,

    Brenda

  • Hi Brenda,

Thank you so much for your prompt reply.

    I understand, I'll recommend using TPS6521815  then.

    Best regards,

    Kurumi
