TPS54394: Design feedback

Part Number: TPS54394

Hello E2E,

Please help to review the design below and kindly share your feedback. Our customer tried implementing the circuit in real life to see if it works, but they don't have the appropriate tools to solder everything at the right place.

Regards,
Carlo

  • Hi Carlo,

All datasheet design guidelines have been followed. Just ensure the inductor saturation current is greater than 6.5A which is the max current limit.  Also, you can check the voltage rating on the input, output, boot, vreg5 caps has enough margin so as to ensure the DC bias derated cap value is sufficient as well. If you have the BOM or part numbers, I can take a look.

    Thanks,

    Amod

  • Hello Amod,

Here is the BOM of each component used:
    -RMCF0402FT22K1 x2 (res 22.1K)
    -RMCF0402FT124K x2 (res 124K)
    -744311470 x2 (ind 4.7uH)
    -04025A220KAT2A x2 (cond 22pF)
    -CL05A226MQ5N6J8 x4 (cond 22uF)
    -06035C104MAT2A x 4 (cond 0.1uF)
    -GRM188R61C106MAALD x4 (cond 10uF)

    Regards,
    Carlo

  • Hi Carlo,

I would recommend increasing the voltage rating of the output caps (22uF) to at least 10V for this 5V design. For the input caps, if they are using 12V input, would recommend using 25V rated 10uF caps instead of 16V. Other components look fine.

    Thanks,

    Amod
