BQ24296M: Full-power jump issue

Part Number: BQ24296M
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24296

Hi team,

Here's an issue from the customer may need your help:

BQ24296 is used for battery management. When the battery is almost full: "The actual battery voltage is around 4v-4..1v"

The device jumps between fast charging and charge termination Done2 states.

  • The Stat pin outputs a 20-Hz frequency, and the PGn output is low.
  • Int always generates an interrupt (frequency is also 20 Hz).
  • The value of the 00-09 register is 32 1B 20 11 b0 8b 73 4b a4 00, where the REG08 value jumps between a4 and b4, and the REG09 value is always 0.
  • The TS pin uses a fixed resistor (10k) to divide the voltage, which is approximately 2.45v.

Below is the circuit:

Could you help check this case? Thanks.

Best Regards,

Cherry

  • Hi Cherry,

I'm looking into this you can expect to hear back by 2/24.

    Thanks,

    Nick

  • Hi Cherry,

    The value of the 00-09 register is 32 1B 20 11 b0 8b 73 4b a4 00, where the REG08 value jumps between a4 and b4, and the REG09 value is always 0.

a4<->b4, device is alternating between fast charge and charge termination. When a full battery voltage is discharged below recharge threshold (REG04[0]), the device automatically starts another charging cycle.

    Few other questions

    1. Could customer check the battery voltage and current on the scope?
    2. Is there a system load that could be triggering the recharge
    3. Can you share a schematic that includes the passive component values?

    Thanks,

    Nick
