BQ2980: BQ298012RUGT Discharge issue

Part Number: BQ2980

Hello,

We are using "BQ298012RUGT"  based protection control circuitry for single cell Lithium ion battery application.

The issue is discharge is not happening & both CHG & DSG pins are low.

How ever during charge mode both CHG & DSG pins outputs are high & charging happens as expected.

Please find the attached schematic snapshot & let us know the reason for this issue.

Thanks

CK

  • Hello CK,

After connecting the charger, are you able to discharge? When initially connecting the cells, the device will be in SHUTDOWN mode assuming an UV fault. VPACK and VBAT need to meet the UV recovery conditions for the device to enter NORMAL mode. Read Section 8.4.1.1 Power-On-Reset (POR) and 8.4.1.4 SHUTDOWN Mode in the datasheet and see if you are meeting the right conditions for NORMAL operation.

Is the charge pump being enabled during discharge? It needs to meet the VDD > VDRIVER_SHUT condition, else the FETs may not turn on.
