TPS1HB16-Q1: 8.5A continuous current

Part Number: TPS1HB16-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS1HA08-Q1, TPS1HB08-Q1, TPS1HB35-Q1

Hi team,

Could you advise how to calculate the maximum ambient temperature for 8.5A continuous current for TPS1HB16-Q1 or TPS1HB35A-Q1?

It is described in the datasheet that 7A typical for Ta=70degC.

How much is the max Ta when 8.5A continuous current?

regards,

  • Hi Tsuji-san,

For currents larger than 7A, we recommend using TPS1HB08-Q1 and TPS1HA08-Q1. These are P2P offerings that are built for higher DC currents.

To calculate the maximum ambient DC temperature for a specific device, you can back calculate using the power dissipation formula.

Using the same assumptions made for the datasheet specification to account for heating of the device and to avoid unintentional thermal shutdown, the power dissipated at 8.5A will be around 3.43W. This means the maximum ambient temperature that TPS1HB16-Q1 can support 8.5A is:

    150-(3.43*34.3) = 32 C

TPS1HB35-Q1 will be further derated. I recommend the use of TPS1HB08-Q1 or TPS1HA08-Q1 for DC currents higher than 7A.

    Thanks,

    Shreyas
