BQ25570: How to calculate the power consumption of BQ25570 and BQ25504

Part Number: BQ25570
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25504

Hi,

I need to calculate the power consumption of ics in my design.

can you please help me to calculate the power consumed by these ic's when in operation -   BQ25570 and BQ25504

Thanks in Advance!

With regards,

saikumar.

  • HI Saikumar,

Since these boost-based converters operate in hysteretic discontinuous mode (DCM), it is difficult to mathematically compute the converter's average or rms input current.  Also, TI does not publish internal switching FET capacitances, which would be needed to compute switching losses.  Therefore, the best way to compute IC losses is to take measured output and input power and compute efficiency (n = Pout/Pin).  Then with Pin+Ploss=Pout, Pout/n + Ploss = Pout so Ploss = Pout - Pout/n = Pout (1-1/n).
