BQ40Z50-R1: The bq40z50EVM-561 cannot detect the remaining battery power on the bqstudio interface

Part Number: BQ40Z50-R1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO, EV2400, BQ40Z50EVM-561

Hi team,

Here's an issue from the customer may need your help:

The customer would like to read battery capacity and remaining capacity during debugging by calling the register, but it cannot be read. They have checked the external connections, which have no problem.

Could you help check this case? Thanks.

Best Regards,

Cherry

  • Hello Cherry,

Are they using a custom PCB or the EVM board? Are they using the EV2400 or their own MCU? For communication debug usually it's easiest if we have a baseline of known good components to compare to (like using bqStudio with EV2400) If this is not working then we know it may be hardware related.

Also the battery capacity will not be reported correctly until the chem ID has been updated and a learning cycle is complete.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller

  • Hello Wyatt,

    Thanks for your help.

Are they using a custom PCB or the EVM board?

They are using bq40z50EVM-561, communicating with PC via SMbus.

And CHEM ID and first learning cycle have been configured, but still no battery display.

    Thanks and regards,

    Cherry

  • Hello Cherry,

Can you define further the issue they're running into? Is this a communication issue, or are the gauging parameters they are reading successfully not correct? If they completed a learning cycle and updated the chem ID, then the gauge communication seems fine.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller
