LM7481-Q1: LM7481-Q1 Redundant Supply Design

Part Number: LM7481-Q1

Hi ,

We will use LM7481-Q1 with a redundant supply design. Whether two LM7481-Q1 DGATE interactive switches when VIN1=VIN2? If yes, does it make any side-effect?

Regards,

Hsing

  • Hi Hsing,

When 2xLM74800-Q1 are used in ORing configuration, the DGATE of LM7480x-Q1 with highest value of (Input Voltage - Load current x Path Impedance) would be ON. A small difference of this voltage (4.5 mV) between the two supplies can cause one of the LM7480x-Q1 to turn OFF its DGATE.

As you mentioned if there is case where the VIN1=VIN2 and path impedances Z1 = Z2 , then the DGATE's of both the LM7480x-Q1 would be ON. Then the load current would be equally shared between each path. There would be no problem if both the DGATE's are ON.

  • Hi Praveen,

    Good. Thank you!
