TPS55288EVM-045: Is it possible supply external power to the TPS55288EVM-045 evaluation board?

Part Number: TPS55288EVM-045
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS55288, TPS552882

Context:

I am using a 25V/1.2A photovoltaic panel to charge a 12V lithium iron (LiFePO4) battery with the evaluation board as an intermediate circuit to regulate the voltage and current. I chose this model due to the fact that the voltage regulators currently available would hit the necessary voltage but only supply 1/4 of the available current to the battery. Also, many of the other available buck/boost converters have a long lead time to receive; pretty much next year.

Question:

It is my understanding that this board can be programmed to user specifications using a GUI, but every time the board is powered off the registers get set back to default. My question is, are there any pins that can be used to supply external power to keep the board on while still receiving a Vin to buck/boost? If so which pins are they?

As one might deduce, nighttime would be a major problem if the board is powered off as the registers would set back to default. Ultimately I'd like to see if I can keep this board powered on by a separate external supply while still using Vin to buck/boost and have my specified Vout so that I don't have to program it each time.

  • Hi Jamie,

TPS55288 internal registers will be set back to default value once it's shutdown. There is no way.

If you don't need I2C register setting, maybe you can look at TPS552882, which is a non-i2c buck-boost converter. The device will output setting Vout once Vin > Vin_uvlo and EN>logic high.
