BQ2962: Connection of a battery pack assembled in series without access to the individual terminals

Hello TI-Eingineers,

for a current project I need to implement a predefined LiPo-Battery pack. I want to integrate the BQ2962 as an undervoltage protection, but I do not have access to the individual terminals within the battery pack.
The mentioned battery pack consists of 4 cells in series. I planned to connect it with voltage dividers (e.g. with 10kOhm) to the IC (for V1 to V4 ).

Do you see any issue with that? Should I instead leave the pins floating? Or could you recommend me another IC?

    This is not really recommended, you really would want to have access to each individual cell. The resistor cell simulators only are useful when evaluating the part with a power supply.

    • First, there would always be current flowing through these resistors, so the power consumption is likely to be higher.
    • Second, it could lead to more dangerous conditions, the part would only be able to measure the 'top-of-stack' voltage divided by 4, so it is possible for some cells to be more under-voltage (UV) than others, so most cells would need to be UV in order for the divided voltage to reach UV and protect the battery pack, by this point it is possible for a battery to already be deeply discharged. 
    • Third, same thing as the second point, but with over-voltage. Some cells could be more over-charged compared to the other ones, which could lead to dangerous levels of over-voltage, as the cells may not be matched.

    I would recommend you get a pack where you can access the cells or modify your current pack to gain access. You want to monitor each cell to ensure each is at a safe level.
